It’s hard to believe that it took the CEO of Google this long to get onto Twitter, but now he has done just that.
Last night, Eric Schmidt registered for the service—choosing a somewhat horrifying username in the process. His handle? @eschmidt0 (which now belongs to Felipe Barreto. Who?). Not exactly the most attractive or fitting Twitter username for someone with his influence.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt's profile page, as of 3:40PM EST.
Luckily for Schmidt, he was able to change it today. Twitter allowed him to change his username to a username that was much more fitting, @ericschmidt. The account was also verified by Twitter themselves.
As of mid-afternoon today, Schmidt is listed on 530 Twitter lists and has just over 9,000 followers. One big caveat: he still does not have a profile picture or a background, and even though the account is verified, one has to wonder how long it will be before Schmidt gets a picture and background posted. You’d think he could easily get someone from Google to make a background for him, but who knows.
Needless to say, it does not look like Schmidt will need to take advantage of any spammy Twitter list-building software to get a following.
